Domain name

Your choice of domain name can have a huge effect on your business and how well it performs online, this is why we have put together seven tips to help you choose the best domain name for your website.

1. Make it is easy to remember

Having a domain name that’s easy to remember ensures they get it right the first time. When people are telling others about your website you want them to be able to remember the sites address.

2. Choose a domain name that includes your keywords

Having keywords as your websites name can improve search engine ranking. Select keywords that reflect how people will search for your business. For example, if you own a coffee shop in Castlebar, you might pick a domain name like 'CoffeeShopCastlebar.com'.

3. Keep the name as short as possible

Keeping domain names short can be a bit hard especially if you want to use keywords but the best website names are short ones that reflect your branding, and use keywords.

4. Choose the best domain name extension(.ie, .com)

The domain name extension is the at the end of the domain name, it follows the “.”.
While there are currently 280 domain name extensions, the four best ones are – .ie, .com, .org, and .net. If the .com domain name is not available, consider using a .ie.

5. Avoid using hyphens or numbers

This is about making the domain name easy-to-type and easy to remember. Both hyphens and numbers are easy to forget and some people might not be able to type hyphens. It's best to avoid them.

6. Check the domain names history

It can be a bad start for a business to learn that the domain name they purchased has been penalized in the past by Google.
You can find more about checking a domain names history here.

7. Register your domain name fast

Speaking as someone who buys a lot of domain names, it's a good idea to buy the domain name stright away. I've had suggested available domain names to clients but after two weeks of indecision the domain name gets snapped up by someone else.
Once you decide on a domain name, buy it stright away.
